    [size=7pt] Russetpaw's ears perked up as Spottedpaw had sprang from her nest. Curious as to what the other apprentice was rushing off to, she stumbled out of the apprentices' den behind her. She had curled up in the corner of the den to be out of the way of her clanmates. She blinked thoughtfully at the sight of Hornetswarm, following his gaze to the pitiful fresh-kill pile. Russetpaw flicked her tail as she realized that the idea of going on patrol wasn't that bad. But she disliked having to go with others. The she-cat thought of padding back into the den and deciding to wait until the patrol had left camp to go hunt.[/Size]

    Russetpaw dipped her head at the appearance of the other apprentice. "I-I'm Russetpaw." She murmured, her eyes wide. Her tail flicked uncomfortably as she flashed a small smile to the she-cat in front of her. Inwardly, she felt a pang of regret at her meeting of her fellow clanmate. The unlucky she-cat was bound to bring trouble for the happy she-cat in front of her. "I might just... go hunt on my own. Now that I think of it, I'm better at hunting alone." She murmured.

    Russetpaw padded towards the Sandy Hollow, tempted to break into a trot. The apprentice could feel her paws tingling in a mix of anxiety and excitement. On one hand, she had waited a long time to be an apprentice, and the thought of learning to fend for her clan delighted her. On the other, the she-cat was the most unfortunate cat that she knew. Wherever her paws stepped, death followed. Her ears pinned back to her head uncomfortably and she halted for a moment, before continuing onward. Russetpaw stepped into the area where her mentor resided and looked around cautiously. She'd never been one for caution before, but seeing what could go wrong was best for her. Her eyes settled on the shape of another cat - undoubtedly her mentor. The young apprentice made her way over to her new mentor slowly, her eyes wide with excitement and caution.

    The apprentice thought for a moment. She felt she would be a lousy hunter, of all things, but it would be better than her fighting. She didn't think fighting would be a good option yet, mostly due to having to mentally prepare herself beforehand. Russetpaw's gaze shifted down to her paws, which she hadn't noticed were shifting. She chose to disregard it. Looking up, she meowed quietly, "Can we... tour the territory?"

    Russetpaw nodded to Spottedpaw wordlessly, her eyes glancing back to the apprentice's den. Her curiosity had gotten the better of her, she supposed, and now believed it to have been a mistake to leave the den. Her tail curled around her paws as her mind raced with all that could go wrong.

    Russetpaw looked at the newly named Adderstar with admiration. She wasn't highly involved with leaderly affairs, but seeing Adderstar address the clan made something within her stir. She wondered if perhaps she'd be sitting there someday. At the mention of her mentor's name, Russetpaw scanned the crowd for the she-cat. Her eyes met the sight of Mossflight and the apprentice's heart swelled in pride. She supposed that was odd for a cat her age, but she couldn't help smiling. She believed firmly that her mentor would make a great deputy, and maybe eventually an even better leader.


    The apprentice felt her fur bristle at the news of the raid. She'd never been much for fighting. It unsettled her slightly, and she looked down to her paws guiltily. Russetpaw felt herself wanting to help, an uncommon feeling, but knew that she was bound not to. The bad luck she harbored would put her clanmates at risk, and she wouldn't do anything to purposely jeopardize such an important mission. The she-cat stalked back to the apprentices' den quietly, hoping to be unnoticed.

    The forest was filled with the chirping of birds high above the apprentice. Russetpaw felt her whiskers twitch as she stalked forward carefully, observing a mouse scuttle about a few fox-lengths before her. A sharp crack sounded and the mouse looked upward at the she-cat, eyes filled with fear, and hurried off before she could even try to catch it.


    Russetpaw sighed, flicking her tail in frustration. The brown and white she-cat had made her way stealthily out of the camp earlier to attempt to catch some fresh-kill and impress her mentor. Her ears flattened to her head as she cursed herself for even trying. That had been the third mouse she'd let slip through her claws.


    The sound of a cracking twig led Russetpaw to turn sharply in the direction of the sound.

    The she-cat narrowed her eyes, but said nothing, nodding in agreement. Russetpaw knew she was lousy at everything, and so why should hunting have been different? She felt her paws twitch uncomfortably at the thought of returning to camp with nothing in her jaws. She couldn't help but feel like there was something she could do. She puffed out her chest, putting on a more dignified facade. "If a moss ball saw your mug, it just might." Russetpaw meowed.

    Russetpaw looked down at her paws guiltily. "I... came out here alone." She confessed. "Or, at least I thought I was alone." The apprentice quickly added, her eyes narrowed at the other apprentice. She had never been one to openly show a dislike of other cats, but if there was one thing she couldn't stand, it was rudeness. Her bitterness soon faded back into the guilt she had previously harbored, given the gravity of the situation she'd found herself in. "...I was just trying to help." Russetpaw mewed quietly.

    Russetpaw nearly jumped at her mentor's voice. She took a moment to think of how long she'd been out and realized it was likely reasonable for the she-cat to be awake. The amount of cats around her made her highly uncomfortable. Large numbers of cats meant more affected by the curse she was sure she had. Regardless, she meowed quietly in reply, "I wanted to hunt so I could help the clan... and impress you." The last words were nearly inaudible.

    Russetpaw looked at her with wide eyes. "I... didn't think about that..." She mumbled, averting her gaze. She doubted she would become much of anything in her future, but she dared not to say such. She had been used to sneaking out of camp as a kit, but it often led to trouble for her and whoever had found her. The she-cat thought briefly of her mother, her eyes clouding with sorrow. She wouldn't have wanted Russetpaw to sneak about in such a way and the young cat knew it.


    Snapping back into reality, she dipped her head to her mentor. "I'm sorry. It won't happen again." The she-cat promised, although she wasn't certain it was a promise she could uphold.


    / ooc: sorry i keep changing my tags. omo;; i'm not used to using them. i haven't really roleplayed in traditional thunderclan since before it was called traditional thunderclan, and tags weren't widely used back then.

    The apprentice looked up, startled by the sudden appearance of the elder. She dipped her head respectively, still surprised. Russetpaw didn't think she would attract such attention from slipping out to hunt, and if she had, she likely wouldn't have done so to begin with.

    Russetpaw watched the two from the mouth of the apprentices' den, intrigued. She had half the mind to see what was so joyful that the two were celebrating over, but thought against it. The she-cat didn't want to cause any trouble for the happy duo. It hadn't been that long since she'd shared a den with Softkit, and had always felt guilty in the nursery, where she was bound to bring the kits misfortune so early in their lives.
